In France, on regional roads (Route National), it is wise to use the "1km = 1min" rule of thumb. If you want to go to the supermarket by car and it is about 10km from your accommodation, it will take you 10 minutes on average. Often in France there are signs along the road saying: Super U - 2min, this means that the Super U is 2km away from your current position if you stay on the route.
